Shire Talk Shire Talk is a local News, Events, Media and Marketing Agency.

Beth Clerke is a Certified Yoga Teacher living in the Sutherland Shire. She teaches mediation, breath-work, vinyasa & yin yoga for all levels; beginners to advanced.

She currently offers private yoga coaching online via zoom, in her home studio (Woolooware) or at a location of your choosing anywhere in the Sutherland Shire.

Whether you’re trying yoga for the first time or you have your own yoga practice already everyone can benefit from private lessons.

Beth can help you understand the spiritual, mental and physical elements of yoga to enhance your personal practice, or, if you’re just beginning your yoga journey, Beth can assist you in developing your own strong and unique personal practice.

Everybody in the world is different and therefore having a tailored program specific to your skeletal/muscular structure is extremely beneficial.

Yoga shouldn’t feel like just a workout, it’s so much more than that!

Tell us something about yourself many people may not know about you?

People always assume that yoga teachers are always happy, calm, had an “easy life” types of people but the truth is we’re all nuts! That’s why we do yoga. I’m a recovered alcoholic and drug addict, nearly 3 years clean and sober and I only started yoga 1.5 years ago at 30 years of age.

Use one word to describe yourself.

What do you love about The Shire?

That there’s beaches and rainforests right next to me, my two favourite places to be. I’ve also found that the people are nicer here than any other beach town I’ve lived in all over the world, it’s a lovely supportive community.

When you were a child what did you want to grow up to be?

A Psychologist. I suffered with depression and anxiety from as early as I can remember so I always wanted to help people who were also stuggling. I’m a true empath.

Share one of your greatest personal achievements.

I’m completely self taught in yoga. I started teaching myself yoga at home on my own at the start of the first lockdown. 6 months in I did my teacher training online and became certified. I’ve never been to a studio yoga class or any in person yoga class where I wasn’t the teacher!

What brings you great happiness?

My husband, our three children and our three fur babies (1 dog and 2 cats)

What is one of the most interesting things about you?

I completely changed my life at 30 years of age. I used to own a corporate travel company for 9 years, I started the company when I was 21 years old. I booked all the travel for liquor sponsored events and music festivals, I started with Aussie events and festivals then grew the business to America, my biggest accounts were Coachella Music Festival and Ultra Miami.

Although my life looked great on socials and was very glamorous I was extremely unhappy I was a highly functional alcoholic and addict. I had a nervous breakdown at 29 years of age, closed my company down and took a year off to do some serious soul searching. I completely started over at 30 years of age, a completely different lifestyle here in the shire and I can happily say that I’ve never been happier! It’s never too late to completely change your life, anything is possible.

What would you tell your younger self?

Learn to love yourself, everything starts within you.

Tell us about your business in one sentence.

I’m a passionate yoga teacher who wants to help people help themselves.

What was the inspiration to start your business?

I completely healed myself of depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol dependency, smoking, adhd and even surgery rehabilitation with yoga and I want to share this magical practice with everyone I can. It’s a transformational practice that can improve everyone’s lives.

Share the mission of your business.

My mission is to inspire people to start and keep their own yoga practice to improve their quality of life. Absolutely everyone can and should practice yoga.

Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world, today I am wise so I am changing myself.”

Tell us about a business win or success.

I have an Alo Yoga sponsored event in December I’m very proud of being sponsored by Alo and being featured on their website.

Share one of your favourite reviews/testimonials.

“I had already been practicing yoga for years before I met Beth, I could never do a headstand, even after 5 years of consistent practice. Beth managed to get me into a headstand on my own in just one private class!

Beth has a gift for teaching yoga, it really does feel like this is what she was born to do, she taught me that once you overcome the limiting beliefs you have about yourself then your physical practice can and will progress; yoga is mind training. I highly recommend Beth to anyone and everyone! I have progressed so much in my own practice thanks to Beth.” - Olivia Linemen

How do you define business success?

Using my passion in service of others, so my passion is also my purpose, I believe this is the key to success.

Tell us about a book that has impacted the way you work in your business.

The Key Muscles Of Yoga by Ray Long. I have a passion for anatomy and neuroscience which I apply to my teaching. This book is one of the first yoga books I read that helped me teach myself correct alignment and muscle engagement in yoga.

If you could open another business what would that be?

I will start yoga retreats in the future, not exactly another business, more of a branch off of this one!

What makes your business unique?

My backstory is extremely unique and it makes me very relatable and inspiring. If I can do yoga literally anyone can!

Tell us about the positive impact your business makes for the Shire community and beyond.

Yoga is a service that teaches people how to improve their quality of life and live happier more balanced lives. Naturally this will have a very positive impact on anyone I teach, in the shire community and anywhere else.
