Most people try to live by the motto, ‘find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’. And if you don’t try to live by it, you’ve probably at least heard of it. Well, one lucky mum is living it – Kristie, the owner of Kristie Kreations.
A boutique food business based right here in the Shire!
We call it a food business, though to all intents and purposes it certainly didn’t start out that way. Back on 2017, almost by accident, Kristie found that she had a passion for making cakes whilst preparing one for her son’s second birthday. ‘The joy that it brought me, and him, was something that I wanted to do for everyone’. And, just like that, Kristie never worked a day again! Well, not quite…
Building A Specialty Cakes Business From The Ground Up
Like all businesses, a lot of time and effort has gone in to get it to where it is now (we’ll get to why we call it a food business in a moment). By making beautiful artisan cakes, for all occasions, Kristie began to develop quite a following.
Letting things grow organically, as is typically the best way to grow a business, word started to spread that proud mum Kristie was doing something special.
But, she quickly found that she could not do it alone. So, calling on her greatest inspiration, her mum (who else?), she quickly formed a dynamic duo that would allow Kristie Kreations to reach even more people and greater heights.
‘My mother is my biggest inspiration. She came from a very hard life, raised me on her own, put herself through university whilst working full-time and being a single mother’.
Clearly, mother Kristie knows a thing or two about hard work and would prove to be the best sounding board and business partner that Kristie could possibly have.
So, as word began to spread, Kristie found herself opening up to more and more orders and taking on a wider variety of requests. This eventually lead to Kristie Kreations branching into grazing boxes, desert boxes and catering!
This is why we are careful with our words and are sure to call Kristie Kreations a food business, because this is a company that has grown far beyond just cake-for-order. Realisizing that it wasn’t just cake, it was ALL food that she had a passion for, Kristie was able to clarify her goal, ‘I wanted to make our food so delicious that you would not want to go anywhere else!’ A noble goal for a food business, it must be said.
So, ‘Big Foot’, as some people call her (a term of endearment we are assured), continues to grow her business, in spite of the most challenging business environment since the great depression.
When asked about her biggest success since starting Kristie Kreations, she simply stated, ‘Surviving through two lockdowns!’ And in a testament to her tremendous community spirit and connection to the Shire, Kristie is very quick to acknowledge the difficulty that all local businesses have had to endure and respects all of the businesses that have survived and thrived through this trying period.
So, what can we expect from Kristie Kreations in the future? A shop front or coffee shop, perhaps?
You never say never, but owning her own coffee shop has always been an interest to this mother of two, who could have been a journalist, if the stars had of aligned differently.
But, for now, Kristie Kreations is just a local, one woman show, with great communication just trying to ensure that her beloved Shire is gorging on the best cakes and food this side of the Great Dividing Range!

I am a lover of old school RnB.
Who is someone you find inspirational? And why?
My mother, so cliche I know. She came from a very very hard life, raised me on her own from 19, put herself through University whilst working full time and being a single mother.
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
Leave my day job to pursue my business.
