Six Places To Go Over The Weekend In The Shire

Have you got plans this weekend? Looking for something interesting to do or a place to go with the kids? Here are six ideas to keep the whole family entertained this weekend.

Cronulla Beach
Cronulla Surf Beach is a great place to spend a day.. With a big green park area next door, plenty of parking, and lovely walks along the waterfront, you’ll find plenty to do. When you get hungry or thirsty, or want a change of scene, there are plenty of local shops and cafes in the Cronulla mall and surrounding the beach area. We particularly recommend Milky Lane, Parea’s Casual Greek, and Crust Cronulla as all have casual atmospheres and cater for families.

Climb Fit Kirrawee
Looking for something active or got kids with loads of energy. Channel that energy into learning how to climb rock walls at Climb Fit, Kirrawee. There are walls for all different levels of ability and a lovely cafe to relax in while the kids climb. Although, there is something for the whole family, so you could all climb together and get fit too.

Bush walk in the Royal National Park
The Royal National Park has several great bushwalking tracks that are well marked and maintained. You can find bushwalks ranging from 20 minutes to three hours easily when you visit the park. You can also hire paddle boats and canoes at Audley for some fun on the water. Here’s a link to the Shire Talk TV episode about it. WATCH HERE.

Pizza and Pasta at Caruso’s
Caruso’s Italian Restaurant in Gymea is a great place for lunch or dinner on any weekend. The restaurant caters for children with a great menu and with all homemade pizzas, pasta sauces, and amazing desserts, you can’t go wrong by planning a meal out here. It’s close to the Hazlehurst Gallery, so you can visit both in one day.

Hazlehurst Gallery
The Hazlehurst Gallery in Gymea offers something for everyone. With different exhibitions regularly, there is always something new and different to explore here. There are activities for kids, an extensive green play area and a sand pit, plus a cafe. You’ll see artworks from locals and famous artists and enjoy the casual atmosphere of one of the Shire’s best attractions.

Flying Swallow Cafe
Flying Swallow Cafe in Bonnet Bay has an extensive play area for the little kids and has a terrific family atmosphere. With a cafe style menu during the day and Asian Fusion at night, there is a lot of choice of good food options. Enjoy a play in the nearby park and then the kids can continue playing in the play area while you relax. Here’s our article about their child-friendly facilities! READ HERE.
